Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most.

What is SecondEcho?

SecondEcho is an AI-powered life story platform that helps you preserve your memories, photographs and personal stories in one place. You can talk, write or add photos, and SecondEcho organizes what you share into your Echo: a living, searchable archive of your life that you can revisit, edit, share and turn into a printed book.

What is an AI biographer?

An AI biographer helps you capture and explore the stories of your life through natural conversation. In SecondEcho, your personal AI biographer is Chloe. She listens to your memories, asks thoughtful follow-up questions and helps you uncover details and stories you may not have thought about in years.

Is SecondEcho a memoir app?

Yes. SecondEcho can be used as an AI-powered memoir and life story app, but it is designed to go beyond a traditional memoir. Alongside your written life story, it builds a living, searchable archive of memories, photographs, people, places and relationships that you can continue adding to over time.

Who created SecondEcho?

SecondEcho was created by Reimagine AI, an artificial intelligence venture studio founded by David Usher. It grew from a broader exploration of memory and how technology could help people preserve the stories, experiences and knowledge that often disappear over time.

How does SecondEcho work?

You build your life story simply by talking, writing and adding photographs, in any order and whenever a memory comes to you. SecondEcho works in the background to understand the people, places, relationships and timeline within what you share and helps organize those memories into a connected life story you can search, edit and turn into a book.

Can I record my life story just by talking?

Yes. Talking is one of the easiest ways to use SecondEcho. You simply speak to Chloe naturally and tell her your memories. SecondEcho captures and organizes what you say into your evolving written life story, while Chloe can ask follow-up questions that help you remember more.

Do I have to write my memoir myself?

No. You do not have to sit down and write a traditional memoir. You can simply talk to Chloe and tell your stories naturally while SecondEcho helps turn those memories into written chapters. You still have complete freedom to edit, rewrite or rearrange anything whenever you want.

Is SecondEcho easy to use if I'm not tech-savvy?

Yes. SecondEcho is designed to be simple and conversational. You do not have to be a writer or be comfortable with complicated technology. You can simply talk, and Chloe helps guide the conversation with questions when useful.

Does SecondEcho organize my memories automatically?

Yes. You can record memories completely out of order. SecondEcho works in the background to understand the people, places, relationships and timeline involved and helps connect scattered moments into a larger life story.

Can I add memories in any order?

Yes. Your memories do not have to be chronological. You can tell a story from yesterday and then jump back 50 years to childhood. SecondEcho is designed around the way people actually remember and helps place those stories into the larger context of your life.

Can I search my memories later?

Yes. Search is a core part of SecondEcho. Your memories become part of a living, searchable life archive, allowing you to return later and find stories connected to particular people, places, periods and experiences.

Can I edit what SecondEcho creates?

Yes. Your life story is always yours to shape. You can leave it largely as SecondEcho creates it, make small corrections, move sections around or completely rewrite parts yourself. How much or how little you edit is up to you.

What languages does SecondEcho support?

SecondEcho currently supports English and French. You can speak or write your memories in a supported language and SecondEcho will capture and organize them into your life story.

Can I add photographs to my life story?

Yes. You can upload photographs and tell SecondEcho the memories connected to them. Chloe can ask who is in the photograph, where and when it was taken, what was happening and why the moment mattered. This gives your photographs context and connects them to the larger story of your life.

Can SecondEcho turn my memories into a book?

Yes. Creating a physical book is a core part of the SecondEcho experience. Your memories, stories and photographs can be turned into a premium full-color hardcover book designed to be kept, displayed and passed down. You can see current book pricing on the SecondEcho pricing page.

What does the SecondEcho book look like?

SecondEcho books are premium full-color hardcovers designed to feel like lasting family artifacts. A photograph can extend across the entire front cover, spine and back cover, creating a highly personal design. Inside, your written life story and photographs are reproduced in full color on premium pages.

Is the SecondEcho book just a photo book?

No. A SecondEcho book is designed to read like a life story or memoir, with your photographs woven into the narrative rather than simply collected into a photo album. The photographs have context because the stories behind them are preserved alongside them.

Can I keep adding memories after I print my book?

Yes. This is one of the central ideas behind SecondEcho. Printing a book does not finish your life story or close your archive. You can continue adding memories, photographs and stories afterward, keep searching your archive and create another book later if you choose. Your book captures your story at a moment in time. Your SecondEcho can keep growing.

Can I order more than one copy of my book?

Yes. You can order multiple copies of your SecondEcho book for children, grandchildren and other family members, and you can order additional copies later.

Can I give a SecondEcho book as a gift?

Yes. A SecondEcho book can be given to family members as a physical record of a life and the memories behind it. You can also give someone SecondEcho as a way to begin preserving their own stories.

Can I use SecondEcho to record my parents' or grandparents' stories?

SecondEcho can help families preserve a parent's or grandparent's stories while they are still able to tell them firsthand. You can capture memories through conversation, add old photographs and preserve the context behind those images and stories. Always make sure you have permission when recording someone or adding another person's personal information.

Can I share my memories with my family?

Yes. You can choose which stories and memories you want to share. This allows families to preserve important moments and different perspectives while keeping control over what remains private.

Why is preserving your life story important?

Family stories disappear faster than most people realize. Photographs often survive, but the stories behind them, who was there, what happened and why a moment mattered, can disappear within a generation. Preserving those memories creates a record that your family can return to long into the future.

What is the easiest way to preserve your life story?

One of the easiest ways is simply to record memories through conversation as they come back to you rather than trying to write your entire memoir at once. SecondEcho is designed around that idea: talk when you remember something, add photographs when you find them, and let the platform help organize everything into your larger life story.

Who owns the memories and stories I add to SecondEcho?

You do. Your memories and personal content remain yours. SecondEcho is designed to help you preserve and organize your story, not take control of it. You decide what you save, what you edit and what you choose to share.

Is my data used to train AI?

SecondEcho does not use your memories, voice or personal content to train general-purpose AI models. Your information is used to provide the SecondEcho experience and build your personal archive. Your memories are personal, and the platform is designed around keeping you in control of the stories and information you choose to preserve.

Is SecondEcho private?

SecondEcho is built around the principle that personal memories should remain under the user's control. Your content is not public by default, and you decide what you add and what you choose to share. Memories can contain deeply personal information, which is why privacy and user control are central to how SecondEcho is designed.

How is SecondEcho different from StoryWorth?

SecondEcho and StoryWorth both help people preserve life stories and create printed books, but the experiences are different. StoryWorth is built around a structured memoir process using questions and story collection. SecondEcho lets you talk, write or add photographs whenever you want and organizes those memories into a living, searchable life archive that can continue growing over time. Your premium hardcover book is created from that archive whenever you are ready, and your archive can continue growing after the book has been printed. Is SecondEcho a good alternative to StoryWorth or Remento?

Yes. SecondEcho is an alternative to StoryWorth, Remento and other life story services for people who want to preserve memories and create a physical book. A major difference is that SecondEcho is built around both a living, searchable life archive and a premium full-color hardcover book. You can continually add memories, search what you have saved, edit your story and create books as your archive evolves. You can read our StoryWorth and SecondEcho comparison for a closer look at the different approaches.

What is the biggest difference between SecondEcho and traditional memoir services?

Traditional memoir services are often designed around completing a project. SecondEcho is designed around building something that can continue growing. Your archive can evolve as you remember new stories, discover photographs and live new experiences. At any point, you can turn part of that evolving story into a premium physical book without ending the archive behind it.

How much does SecondEcho cost?

SecondEcho subscription plans start at $9.99 per month, allowing you to build and preserve your life story over time. Premium full-color hardcover books start at $79, with final pricing depending on the length of the book. See the SecondEcho pricing page for current subscription and book pricing.
